Funeral services for John L. (Jack) Stevens, 75, of 720 N. 11th St., Manitowoc,
who died Monday at home, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Reformed United
Church of Christ, Manitowoc. The Rev. Theodore P. Crusius will officiate and
burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military graveside rites will
be conducted by the Drews-Bleser American Legion Post, No. 88.
Mr. Stevens was born June 8, 1893, at Mount Edna, Ind., son of the late John and
Isabella Fischer Stevens. He attended Marion, Ind., schools, and served in the
U.S. Navy from June 5, 1917 until July 1, 1919. He married Carla Vogelsang June 8,
1921, at Manitowoc where the couple resided since.
He was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, Masonic Order No. 65, Manitowoc
Chapter No. 16, Manitowoc Council No. 18, Manitowoc Commandery No. 45, Scottish
Rite, was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Tripoli Shrine of Milwaukee and the
Manitowoc and Two Rivers Shrine Club.
Mr. Stevens assumed management of the Vogelsang Furniture Co. and the funeral home
in 1933 after being connected with the firm for 15 years with his father-in-law.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Fred, of Oshkosh; a daughter, Mrs. William (Joan)
Kromm, of Fond du Lac; a sister, Mrs. Alice Boykin, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and nine
grandchildren. Three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, this Tuesday evening until
11 a.m. Wednesday and then at the church until the time of services. The Masonic
memorial service will be at 8 o’clock this Tuesday evening.
