DALE RICHARD SCHULTZ (d. 2004)

Dale R. Schultz, age 59, of 703 S. 33rd St., Manitowoc, was called Home to see his Lord on Christmas Eve. Dale was born in Manitowoc, Aug. 29, 1945, son of the late Marvin and Nora Mueller Schultz. He was born again of water and the Spirit in the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on Sept. 16, 1945. He attended Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Grade School and was confirmed at Immanuel on March 22, 1959. After graduating from Manitowoc's Lincoln High School in 1963, he began his studies in elementary education at the Manitowoc County Teachers College and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1967. Dale taught in the Appleton Public School System until 1974 when he lost his eyesight as a complication of diabetes. Six years later, he received a kidney from his sister Jalaine at the University of Minnesota, and by the grace of God was able to enjoy an additional 25 years of rich productive life. Dale went on to complete his master's degree in 1981, also at UW-Oshkosh. He volunteered his teaching skills at Bethany Ev. Lutheran elementary school for the following 10 years. In 1990, he completed his synodical certification and became a teacher in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and began teaching at Bethany. Dale's life reached a new level of happiness April 28, 1985, when he married Phyllis Koch. They would be celebrating 20 years of marriage this spring. He served his Lord in many capacities, both through his church and his community. He was an elder and a member of the stewardship committee and board of education at Bethany and also of the Manitowoc Lutheran High School board. In addition, he served on the Special Ministries Committee of the Northern Wisconsin District of the WELS and had been a member of the Citizens Physical and Sensory Disabilities Commission in Manitowoc. A member and former president of the Braille Club of Manitowoc, Dale was a frequent speaker on diabetes and blindness. He always used these opportunities to give witness to his faith in the salvation won for him by the blood and righteousness of his Savior Jesus Christ. On Christmas Eve, Dale opened his eyes in heaven and saw his Savior face to face. Those who rejoice at his entrance into eternal life include his wife and best friend: Phyllis; and their children: Sandy and Mike Ruminski and son: Tim; Sue and Steven Gauthier; Steven and Rebecca Koch; and their children: Drew, Jacob, and Elizabeth; Keith and Jeanna Koch; Kevin and Mary Ann Koch; and their sons: Gregory and Keith. Dale is also survived by his very special sisters and brothers: Jalaine and Rev. James Naumann; Jana and Ronald Olm; Dion and Sandi Schultz; James and Sandy Schultz in addition to nieces, nephews, many other relatives, and very many friends survive. Relatives and friends may call at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc, on Monday (TONIGHT), from 5 until 7 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
