Carol M. Schroeder, age 81, formerly of 1410 Columbus St., Manitowoc, was called home by her Lord Thursday night, May 12, 2011, at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center of Manitowoc with her loving family by her side.

Carol was born Dec. 7, 1929, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Albert and Esther Zastrow Ellestad. She grew up on a farm in Valders, loving the outdoors. Carol attended the Valders High School and was a 1947 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On May 8, 1948, she was married to Walton P. "Wally" Schroeder in Manitowoc. Wally preceded Carol in death on March 24, 2003.

Carol had worked for 25 years as a receptionist at the Manitowoc Eye Clinic. Carol was a member of First Lutheran Church and Otto-Oas VFW Post #659 Auxiliary. She was a master Lefse maker, loved gardening and enjoyed TV, embroidery, crocheting, bowling, golfing and reading. Carol had a smile for everyone she met.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Scott D. (Margaret) Schroeder, Fond du Lac; three daughters and sons-in-law: Nancee A. (Jay) Musil, Valley Springs, Calif.; Patrice A. (Mike) Boury, Cynthiana, Ky.; Cindee A. (Steve) Vogel, Whitelaw; ten grandchildren: Chad Musil, Beth Vogel and her fianc?, Chris Brandl, Aimee and Rachel Vogel; Jennifer (Bobby) Cushman, Anthony Eilbes, Joseph (Amanda) Eilbes, Brian Eilbes; Nicholas and Melanie Boury; three great-grandchildren: Jaxon Eilbes, Gwen and Ingrid Cushman; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Eldred (Marianne) Ellestad, Ohio; Donald Ellestad, Wauwatosa; Everett (Barbro) Ellestad, Sweden; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Imogene (Richard) Hermann, California; Jayette Blom (Thomas Donor), Georgia; four brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law: Donald (Germaine) Schroeder, Manitowoc; Earl (Priscilla) Schroeder, De Pere; Herald (Shirley) Schroeder, Jr., Germantown; and John (Nancy) Schroeder, Manitowoc. Many loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Albert and Esther Ellestad; her husband: Wally Schroeder; one grandson: Roman; one brother: Edmund Ellestad; one sister and brother-in-law: Adeline (Leonard) Klein; one sister-in-law: Coola Ellestad; two brothers-in-law: Wayne Schroeder and Richard Schroeder.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 1122 S. 8th St., Manitowoc. Ann Unertl, Parish Nurse of First Lutheran Church, will officiate with burial of her cremated remains at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of services at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated for the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
