JOSEPH J. SALKOWSKI SR.

Joseph J. Salkowski, Sr., 82, a native of Manitowoc, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Citrus Memorial hospital in Inverness, Fla.
Joseph was born on Dec. 10, 1925, in Manitowoc. He moved to Homosassa, Fla., in December 2007. Everyone who knew Joseph described him as a quiet, kind and gentle man, who always put others before himself. He always had a smile on his face and was sincerely happy to see you if you stopped by or simply bumped into him around town. It wasn't uncommon for Joseph to wave over an old friend to the bar and buy them a beer; he was known to occasionally buy a round for new friends as well. He loved fishing, camping and, later in life, he became a regular on the Manitowoc bowling scene. In his younger days, it was common for Joseph to spend 12 hours on a lake trying to catch the big one. Later in life, Joseph was content spending many hours at the bowling alleys around Manitowoc, logging many hours at Meadow Lanes West where he bowled with the young ones on the senior league. Even at 80 years old, Joseph's per game average was well above his age. Despite never getting to see a game live at Lambeau Field, Joseph was a huge Green Bay Packers fan watching nearly every televised game. Joseph was employed by the Mirro Aluminum Company for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990 at the age of 65. He married Shirley Riske on August 19, 1956, in Manitowoc. He couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2006 in Manitowoc, now lives in Homosassa, Fla.
Survivors include his sister: Rosemary Lorentz of Manitowoc; three sons: Joseph Salkowski, Jr. of Homosassa, Fla.; Steven Salkowski fo Manitowoc and Peter Salkowski of San Francisco, Calif.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his loyal companion, Molly, his black lab. He was preceded in death by his three brothers: Casmeire Salkowski, Frank Salkowski and John Salkowski.
Anyone wanting to send a card to the family can mail them to Shirley Salkowski 5660 South Power Terrace, Homosassa, FL 34446.
