PHYLURA A. RAYMOND

DIED—On Monday, June 26, 1882, at Neshota, Phylura A. Raymond, aged 20 years
11 months and twenty days.
Just before going to press the above news is given us, and never during our
experience as editor have we taken up our pen with such saddened thoughts as
we do now to inform our readers of the grievous sorrow that has befallen a most
estimable family.
Miss Phylura, commonly called Lura, was so well and favorably known in this
county, that no words of ours can add anything of value. While she moved in the
social circles of our city, she was one of the brightest among the bright bevy
of our young ladies, and her vivacious nature and universal kindness won her
scores of friends. Three years ago, when consumption began its dire encroaches,
her jolly nature was tinged with sadness and slowly her life ebbed away. Neither
the sunshine of nature, nor the art of the physician, could stay the fateful
slayer, and the beautiful flower faded and fell. She bore her suffering bravely,
and the more acute it became, the more patient and gentle was she. If ever a soul
deserves eternal happiness, it is that of Lura Raymond. With saddened hearts and
tearful eyes her young friends stand at her grave, living evidences of heartfelt
sympathy and sorrow.
The funeral of Miss Raymond will occur tomorrow afternoon and the services will
take place at three o’clock at the Episcopal church.

Miss Lura Raymond died at her home in Neshoto on Monday last. She was 20 years
old at the time of her death. She suffered from consumption for the last three
years. Unlike most people who fall victims to that insidious disease, her whole
period of sickness was one of great suffering. She bore it all with christian
fortitude. Her funeral took place yesterday.

Thanks.
The undersigned herewith extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the many friends
who during the long and painful illness of our beloved Lura brightened her life by their
generous friendship, and who lightened our sorrow at her death by their kind sympathy.
