MARK RASMUSSEN

Mark C. Rasmussen, age 68, of 3518 Forest Circle, Manitowoc, entered eternal rest Tuesday evening, June 24, 2003 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2601 S. 10th St., Manitowoc, with the Rev. Brian Staude officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc, with military rites accorded by AMVETS Post #99. Mark was born Dec. 4, 1934 in Wrightstown. He was the son of the late Earl and Elinor Rasmussen. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1953. He then entered the United States Army and served overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Mark was the past president of the Insurance Center of Manitowoc from where he retired in 1998. He had served in the past years as an alderman for the city of Manitowoc, 25 years serving the Manitowoc Board of Parks and Recreation. He was active for many years in various capacities of the Manitowoc County Chiefs Semi Pro Football team. Mark had been honored by the Manitowoc Chiefs Football Hall of Fame, being inducted in 1998. He was also a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc Elks Club, AMVETS Post #99, for which he played taps for many veterans departures, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #659, snowmobile club of Nasawaupee in Door County. Mark was an avid golfer and enjoyed his "second home" in Door County. Surviving family include his wife: Janice nee Avery to whom he was married on June 1, 1957; daughter and son-in-law: Cindy and Rick Oswald, Manitowoc; son and daughter-in-law: Chris and Christine Rasmussen, Green Bay; brother and sister-in-law: Aaron and Betty Rasmussen, Manitowoc; brother-in-law: Dale (Ruth) Avery, Whitelaw; brother-in-law: George Wichihowski, Appleton; seven beloved grandchildren: Jason Chrest, Mark Chrest, Mary Rasmussen, Selena Rasmussen, Samuel Oswald, Gabriel Rasmussen and Earl Oswald, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends to include Geraldine Kipping of Sturgeon Bay. Mark was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Mary Wichihowski; and Mavis Pollock; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Amanda Avery Wagner and Donald Avery and one niece: Sara Rasmussen Lindsey. Friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday (TONIGHT) and then at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
