Bernard J. Powell, age 85, of 1436 Johnston Drive, Manitowoc, died on Saturday,
July 24, 2010, at North Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Bernard was born on April 17, 1925, in Manitowoc, son of the late Peter and
Lillian (Gauthier) Powell. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School.
Bernard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from March 4, 1943, until
Dec. 20, 1945. On July 28, 1945, Bernard married Marcella Bonk at the Kingsville,
Texas, Naval Air Station. She preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2006. In September
of 2007, he was married to Dorothy McGraw in Manitowoc. He owned and operated the
Dog & Suds Restaurant as well as Powell’s Restaurant in Manitowoc. He was a home
inspector in the Manitowoc area. Bernard was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles
Aeries No. 706 of Manitowoc.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Peter and Lillian Powell; his first wife:
Marcella Powell; one son: Terry Powell; and one sister and brother-in-law: Ann
(Dick) Stalvey.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Jens
Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 S. 8th St., Manitowoc. Pastor Michael
Kleinhans will officiate with burial of his cremated remains at Evergreen cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 5 pm.
