ROBERT A. PHILLIPS (d. 1968)

Robert A. Phillips, 77, of 602 Oak St., manufactrers' representative
for fire protection equipment, and who was supervising architect for
Martin-Tulgren Co., archeitects for Hotel Manitowoc, now the Manitwooc
Motor Hotel, died Thursday at Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing
health for several months.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mittnacht Funeral Home,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Gervase Zanotti will officiate and burial will be
in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Phillips was born Dec. 13, 1890, in Dane county, son of the late
Henry and Emma Field Phillips. He attended high school at Madison and
was a graduate of Pennsylvania State College's school of architectural
engineering.
After completion of the hotel building in 1927 he was employed by the
architectural firm of Klug and Smith of Milwaukee until 1930. He then
came to Manitowoc to reside and was sales and service representative
for the Walter Kidde Co. of New Jersey, a company specializing in large
marine fire protection systems. His territory included shipbuilding
firms in Manitowoc, Brown, Kewaunee and Door counties.
Mr. Phillips was a sportsman, well-known in golfing and bowling circles.
He was a charter member of the Manitowoc Sportsman's Club. In 1942 he
became president of the Lakeside Country Club, and was at one time the
club's champion golfer. He also belonged to the Manitowoc Elks Lodge and
United Commercial Travelers.
He married Miss Irma Schmitz in 1935 and she survives with two sons by
a former marriage, (Survivors omitted for privacy.), and three grand-
children. He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Friends may call at the funeral home this Friday evening.
