LEO A. PHILLIPS

Leo A. Phillips, 81, of 516 York St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning at Columbus
Hospital, Chicago. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Saturday at Urbanek and
Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Victor Hillestad will officiate with
burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Phillips was born July 11, 1893 in the Town of Lawrence, Brown County, son
of the late Merrick and Rosamond Strickney Phillips. He married Ruth Miller
Nov. 17, 1915 at Little Chute, moving to Manitowoc in 1922. He was a carpenter
and was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., during World War II. Mrs.
Phillips preceded him in death March 6, 1974.
Survivors include three sons, Merrick of Chicago, Milton of St. Clair Shores,
Mich., and Donald of Beaver Dam; eight daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hammerschmidt,
Mrs.Jack (Beatrice) Gerts, Mrs. Audrey Hanson and Mrs. William (Betty) Philpott
of Chicago, Mrs. George (Elaine) Lyman of San Bernardino, Calif., Mrs. Marily
Hoffman of Clawson, Mich., Mrs. Donald (Gladys) Burgett of Cleveland, Ohio and
Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) MacGregor of St. Clair Shores; 42 grandchildren and 14 great
grandchildren. Two sons, Richard and Robert, nine brothers and sisters and a
grandson preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral home from 4 to 9 pm Friday and
Saturday until the time of service.
