JOHN M. PETERIK SR. (d. 1954)

John Peterik, Sr., 78, retired Manitowoc city fireman, and active for more
than 40 years in the County Fish and Game Protective Association, died Sunday
night at the home of his son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. John Peterik,
Jr., of 1121 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Urbanek and Schlei
Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. E. A. Radey will officiate and burial will
be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
He was born in Mishicot in 1876 and attended high school in Manitowoc. He
played baseball and football and was on the track team of the old North Side
High School, back in the late 1890s. He joined the Manitowoc Fire Department
in 1906, was advanced to the rank of captain, and retired in 1939, after more
than 22 years in the department.
During World War II he was employed at the Burger Boat Co., retiring in 1946.
In 1947 he was honored by the County Fish and Game Protective Association,
after completing 40 years as a member, being presented with a life membership
and a gift on that occasion.
In 1906 he married Miss Christina Tikalski. She survives, with a son, John, Jr.,
of Manitowoc; brother, Louis, of Manitowoc; three sisters, Mrs. Wenzel Kadow
and Mrs. Emma Marshall of Manitowoc, Mrs. Elizabeth Bruce of New Underwood,
S.D.; and a grandchild, Mrs. Larry Zarnott, of Hilbert, Wis.
Friends may call at the funeral home after Tuesday noon.
