Mrs. John (Muriel) Peaslee, Sr., age 89, of 1244 N. Ninth St., Manitowoc, entered eternal rest early Friday morning, April 7, 2006 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, where she had resided since December of last year. Memorial services will be held 11 am Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Matthew Sauer officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Muriel was born Sept. 9, 1916 in Bronx, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Phillip and Bertha Grieger Kuestner. She was a graduate of New Rochelle High School, New Rochelle, N.Y., and continued her education going to secretarial school. Muriel had been employed with Benjamin Moore Paint company in New York for 10 years. On Dec. 28, 1946 she married John B. Peaslee at New Rochelle, N.Y. In 1947 she and her husband moved to Manitowoc. Muriel was a longtime and very active member of First Presbyterian Church and a deacon of the church. In past years, she was active with the Junior Service League and was a longtime member of two bridge clubs.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years; John B. Peaslee Sr.; her five children, Jay (Cheryl) Peaslee Jr., Manitowoc, Rob (VIcki) Peaslee, Two Rivers; Betsy (Paal) Hansen, Lakewood, Allison Peaslee, Manitowoc, Douglas (Janet) Pruett Peaslee, Madison; two grandchildren, Samuel and Rachel Peaslee; one sister, Alvina Wendt, Naples, Fla.; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends surviving. She was preceded in death by two brothers and her twin sister. Friends may call at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of services at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center 3rd floor and to Holy Family Hospice for the care that had been given to Muriel while she was a resident there.
