John Burton Peaslee, age 89, a Manitowoc resident, entered into eternal life on
Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Aurora BayCare in Green Bay.
John Burton was born in McKeesport, Pa., on May 6, 1919, to the late Albert and
Ida Fox Peaslee. When John was 3 years old, his family had moved to Pittsburgh,
Pa. He graduated from Langley High School in February 1937. He began his college
education at Penn State College in 1937, and graduated in 1941, earning his degree
in mechanical engineering.
In August 1940, he went to work for U.S. Steel at a tube mill in Elwood City, Pa.
In August of 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Calif.,
Utah, Texas, England, France, Germany and the Philippines. He was honorably
discharged on Feb. 23, 1946, at Indiantown Gap, Pa. In March of 1946, John moved
to Manitowoc to work for his uncle Robert Fox at Dunrite Industries, formerly the
Richards Iron Works. In 1947, John bought the foundry and in 1952 the business
moved to 2701 Division St., and was renamed Manitowoc Grey Iron Foundry.
On Dec. 28, 1946, John married Muriel E. Kuestner in New Rochelle, N.Y. Muriel
preceded John in death on April 7, 2006. John was a member of First Presbyterian
Church in Manitowoc and the Manitowoc Elks Club since 1947.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Muriel; and one brother:
Robert V. Peaslee.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home
on Friday, July 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. The visitation will continue at First
Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 12, from 9 a.m. until the start of the memorial
service at 10 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer will officiate. Immediately following
the memorial service, a luncheon will be held at First Presbyterian's Fellowship Hall.
At 12:30 p.m., a procession will take place to Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc where
military rites will be accorded by VFW Otto Oas Post 659 with burial to follow.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets,
Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to First Presbyterian
Church in Manitowoc. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jeff
Schroeder and the staff at Aurora BayCare in Green Bay.
