James J. Panoch, 54, retired prominent Mishicot businessman, died Saturday
evening at the Holy Family hospital after a short illness. Ill with pneumonia,
he was removed to the hospital Friday noon when complications set in.
Mr. Panoch conducted a barber shop at Mishicot until he took over the operation
of his tavern and restaurant. He disposed of this enterprise last October, and
had been devoting full time to his insurance business. He was an agent of the
Great Northern Life company for a quarter of a century. Mr. Panoch was familiarly
known to the village residents as "mayor".
He was born Sept. 28, 1890, in Kellnersville, the son of the late John Panoch
and Katherine Feit Panoch. On Oct. 16, 1922, he and Clara Jonas were united in
marriage. She survives with two daughters, Jeanne, recently named to the
accounting and auditing division of the Wisconsin Department of Taxation, Madison,
and Helen at home. Three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Vessely of Manitowoc, Mrs. Charles
Rose and Mrs. John Skarvan, both of Kellersville, also survive. A brother, Steve,
preceded him in death three months ago.
Funeral services for the deceased will be held Tuesday morning, 8:30 at the Specht
funeral home in Mishicot, and at 9 o’clock a requiem high mass will be celebrated
in his memory at the Holy Cross Catholic church. Interment will be in the Evergreen
cemetery in this city. This evening at 8 o’clock the rosary will be recited at the
funeral home.
Mr. Panoch was a member of the Holy Name society and the Two Rivers Elks lodge.
