MUSTERED OUT OF LIFE RANKS
Ernst Neiteritz(sic), Veteran of Civil War, Called by Death
Ernst Neiteritz, a civil war veteran and old settler of the county who for fifteen
years has made his home in the county has been mustered from life ranks by death,
Mr. Neiteritz's death occurring at home, Green and Ninth Streets at midnight
Tuesday. Death was due to age.
Mr. Neiteritz was born in Germany 75 years ago and came to Manitowoc county in 1853,
settling in Centerville. When the Civil War broke out he enlisted with Co. B., 45th
Wisconsin and served with credit. Fifteen years ago he removed to the city and had
lived a retired life. He was twice married, his second wife and four sons surviving.
Two sons reside in Wood and one in Door County. The whereabouts of another is
unknown and it was one of the sorrows of the closing days of Mr. Neiteritz's life
that he had not heard from the boy. Mr. Neiteritz was a member of Walker Post G.A.R.,
and the funeral Friday afternoon will be in charge of the Post.
