HAMLIN R. LAST

Hamlin R. Last, age 87, a resident of Bel-Mar Apartments,
Maribel, died on Friday morning, Feb. 22, 2008, at Brookfield
Rehabilitation and Specialty Care, Brookfield.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1920, in Two Rivers, son of the late
Archie J. and Carmen (Rudebeck) Last. Hamlin was a graduate
of Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, Class of 1937, and then
graduated from Manitowoc County Teachers College in 1939.
Hamlin taught at the Maple Corner School in the town of
Schleswig from 1939 to 1942. On July 5, 1941, he married the
former Joan L. Krumdick at Holy Innocents Catholic Church,
Manitowoc. She preceded him in death Feb. 26, 1990. Hamlin
began farming with his father on Menasha Avenue, Manitowoc,
and later in Grimms, and Route 1, Cato, from 1943, until his
retirement from farming in 1969. He also worked at Manitowoc
Shipbuilding from 1942 to 1943, and was employed as a Valders
School District bus driver from 1950 to 1959. He was also
employed at Brillion Iron Works from 1956 to 1957, and then
at Manitowoc Engineering from 1961 to 1965, and 1970, until
his retirement in 1983.

He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law: John
and Debbie Last; a sister and brother-in-law: Thais and
Lawrence Hansen; and a special friend: Jackie Koller.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday,
Feb. 28, 2008, at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care
Center, Manitowoc, and 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi on
Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating the Mass of Christian Burial
will be the Rev. Daniel Felton, with burial at Evergreen
Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer
Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 4 to
8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008. A prayer service will
be held at 7:30 p.m.
Visitation will continue on Thursday morning at The Pfeffer
Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the time of the morning prayer
service at 10:30 a.m.
Dad enjoyed his dogs, bird & wildlife-watching, harness
racing, Big Band music, dancing, playing cards, deer hunting
with family and friends, golfing (hole-in-one at age 78), and
time spent at the Park Falls, Wisconsin, cabin. His most
cherished moments were spent with his beloved family. Dad,
Grandpa, Great Grandpa, friend, you will be dearly missed.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the
many dedicated and caring staff members at Holy Family Memorial
Hospital for the compassionate care given to our dad.
