Roland F. LaFond, age 77, of 3904 Wildwood Dr., Manitowoc, died Friday afternoon,
November 24, 2000, at St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2000, at St.
Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial
will be Rev. Roman Zbieranski O.F.M., with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
Roland was born December 1, 1922, in Manitowoc, son of the late Roland J. and
Martha M. Mrotek LaFond. He was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with
the class of 1939. Roland then attended the Manitowoc Vocational School serving
his apprenticeship with Manitowoc Engineering Company. He served with the United
States Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the Italian Campaign. He
returned to the Manitowoc Engineering Company until 1950. Roland then joined the
Manitowoc Fire Department and International Association of Fire Fighters Local
#369, retiring as Captain in 1978.
He then returned to Manitowoc Engineering from 1978 to 1984. On September 11, 1982,
he married Iola Huebner at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He was a
member of the Manitowoc Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife, Iola LaFond, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law,
Ron and Debra LaFond, Manitowoc; three grandchildren, Keith, Heather and Daniel
LaFond; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Jeff and Liz Huebner, Denver, Colo;
one step daughter, Karen Caramelli, Torrington, Conn.; one brother and two sisters-
in-law, John and Carol LaFond, Milwaukee, Rita LaFond, Manitowoc four sisters-in-
law and two brothers-in-law, Gloria and Douglas Ripp, Milwaukee, Karen and Merlin
Stuebs, Appleton, Verna Kreisa, Two Rivers, Mim Jenkins, Green Bay; one brother-in-
law and one sister-in-law, Harold and Betty Everard, Columbus, Ohio; many nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by one brother,
James LaFond; two brothers-in-law, Gary Jenkins and Claude Kreisa.
The family will greet relatives and friends Wednesday morning, November 29, 2000,
at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at
11 a.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
