Richard Lade, 84, commercial fisherman at Manitowoc for 60 years, died at
6 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Mr. Lade, who resided
at 1223 Grand Ave., Manitowoc, had been hospitalized three weeks.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pfeffer Funeral Home,

in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Lade was born at Little Suamico, Wis., Dec. 21, 1875, a son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Fehrman Lade. He came to Manitowoc as a young man where
March 8, 1898, he married Rose Schmidt. Before retirement five years ago
he was a commercial fisherman for more than 60 years. Mrs. Lade died
Thanksgiving Day, 1939.
While at Little Suamico Mr. Lade gained experience as a fisherman working
on rigs operated out of that Oconto County community. He often recalled
the huge catches of perch, now a prized food, which were shunned in favor
of herring. Three generations of Lades operated the fishing rig out of
Manitowoc until he retired.
Surviving are a son, Edwin R. of Manitowoc, with whom he resided; two
brothers, Henry of Milwaukee and Edward of Green Bay; a sister, Mrs.
Joseph Lanso of Baileys Harbor and two grandsons.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
