MILTON JAEGER

The distinguished flying cross was awarded recently to Second Lt. Milton A.
Jaeger, 23-year-old Manitowoc Ninth air force P-38 Lightning pilot, who was
reported missing in action following a dive-bombing mission near Dreux, France
on Aug. 14, 1944.
The citation singled out Lt. Jaeger for his extraordinary achievement in aerial
flight against the enemy from May to August, 1944. During this period Lt. Jaeger
participated in many dangerous missions over northern and western Europe. His
aerial proficiency and tactical skill were particularly marked by the aggressive
manner in which he attacked and destoyed enemy installations, equipment and
material in the face of great difficulties. In low-level attacks against the
enemy he continually displayed great courage and brilliant leadership despite
the hazards of intense enemy fire and adverse weather conditions.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Almon Jaeger of Manitowoc, he was graduated from Lincoln high
school in 1939 and received his wings and commission in October, 1943.
