Karen A. Crawford, wife and mother, died early Friday morning, March 11, 2005, in the loving arms of her family. Karen lived and loved well, and had a deep and abiding faith in her Lord and Savior.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2005 from 2 until 6 p.m. at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 14, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 916 Pine St., Manitowoc. There will also be a visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Karen was born in Milwaukee, the daughter of Karl and Gwendolyn Olp. After graduating in 1970 from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, Karen continued her education graduating from Lakeshore Technical College with a dental assistant's degree and from Milwaukee Area Technical College as a dental laboratory technician. Karen worked at Marquette Dental School and LTC as a teaching assistant.
Karen married Kevin Crawford at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, on Oct. 19, 1974. When her kids were young, Karen enthusiastically taught pre-school and Vacation Bible School at First German. Most recently, Karen demonstrated her love for children through her eight years of employment
with the Manitowoc Public School District as an instructional aid. What Karen loved most though, was being with her children as an almost always, a stay-at-home mom. She dedicated herself to bringing up her children in the faith of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod and supporting them in every way possible. Karen attended church and school events in spite of the difficulties brought about by her illness and in the face of all her earthly suffering, missed only one game after raising three high school and college basketball players. She will now guide their hearts and minds from her new home in heaven. Karen is survived by her husband: Kevin; and daughter: Abby, at home; sons: Shane and wife, Jane, Darien, Wis.; and Adam, Milwaukee; and special friend: Rachael; parents Karl and Gwen Olp; sister: Sandy (Paul) Brooks; nephew: Nathan (Shelly) Brooks; niece: Laura Brooks; sisters and brothers-in-law include: Sandy and Erling
Peck; Candy Handl and special friend, Orin; Dianne and Roger Trepasso; and various other nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by Grandmas and Grandpas Freida and John Olp and Laura
and Reine Koch; and Adolph Rusch by mother-in-law and father-in-law: Grace and Garfield Crawford; also by brother-in-law Danny Mandl. In lieu of flowers, Karen would like memorials made to the Manitowoc Lutheran High School Building Fund. Karen and her family would like to thank Dr. (private) and Dr. (private) and all
their dear friends at the Holy Family Memorial Cancer Center; the special nurses and staff at HFM floors 3-East and 5-East and Diagnostics; Dr. (private); and Dr. (private) of University Hospitals; and HFM Hospice with special thanks to Brenda. Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter, March 12, 2005
