MRS. OWEN GRAY
The community was saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Owen Gray on Tuesday morning, August 29, 1922, following a lingering illness of several months duration.
Catherine Jane Sweeney was born April 23, 1867, at Dwight, Ills., and removed with her parents to Nebraska, when ten years old, residing most of the time prior to her marriage in Custer county. In 1894 she was married to Owen Gray of Ulysses, and has since made her home in Butler County.
Mrs. Gray was the mother of five children, two sons dying in infancy. She leaves to mourn a loving husband, three children, Anna, Leo and Arthur, together with an aged mother, one sister and six brothers, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
Mrs. Gray's sympathetic and kindly nature won for her many true and steadfast friends. The high esteem in which she was held being influenced by the assistance rendered throughout her long illness and following her death. Many beautiful floral offerings and spiritual boquets were received.
Thus has gone to her reward, one of whom it may truthfully be said, was a splendid woman, good and true, kind and loving.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Ulysses Thursday morning when a solemn requiem high mass was celebrated by her pastor Rev. Fr. Laughran, assisted by the Rev. Frs. Sprohl, David City and Mock, of Valley.
As sunshine follows the shadow
May the light of an endless day
Guide and protect thy dear ones
'Till death's angel shall call them away.
"We have loved her in life, let us not forget her in death." - E. B. L.
