MESICK — Margaret Lucille McNitt, 93, of Mesick, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Lakeview Lutheran Manor in Cadillac.
Margaret was born on July 25, 1918, to Elmer and Aura (Malone) Palmer in Antioch Township. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Mesick Consolidated School in 1934. She married William Eugene McNitt on Dec. 21, 1937. They reared their four sons and two daughters on the family homestead. Margaret assisted Gene in their family business for many years.
In 1970, they moved to their new home located along the Manistee River, where they enjoyed many gatherings with family and friends. They spent many winters in Florida. Margaret loved flower and vegetable gardening, reading, and playing "the oldies" on the piano and organ. In spite of sadness and losses, she often said "I count my blessings every day."
Margaret is survived by two children, Delores June Comstock, of White Cloud, and Jeff (Lori) McNitt, of Mesick; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides her parents and step-mother, Marie (Hamilton) Palmer, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; sons, Terry, Jerry and Ned; daughter and son-in-law, Jane (Jerry) Strnad; grandchildren, Michael and Narda (Hughson) Adams; and a daughter-in-law, Alice (McNitt) Kern.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Antioch Cemetery, 19 Road, Mesick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or the Mesick AmVets Post 120.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Kingsley.
