Residence Pickens County, AL.
Enlisted for 12 months' service on 8/8/1861 at Pickensville, he was mustered into (Old) Company C, 5th Alabama Infantry as a Private. This Company subsequently was redesignated (New) Company H, 5th Alabama Infantry.
Appointed 2nd Lieutenant 4/27/1862.
POW 9/13/1862 Battle of South Mountain, MD., during Maryland Campaign; confined at Fort Delaware, DE.; sent from Ft. Delaware to Aiken's Landing, VA. 10/2/1862 for exchange of Lieutenants; exchanged 11/10/1862.
Killed In Action in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House.

The 5th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Montgomery, Alabama, in May, 1861, and proceeded to Virginia. Its companies were from the counties of Barbour, Clarke, Lowndes, Talladega, Dallas, Sumter, Monroe, Greene, and Pickens.
Reduced to a mere skeleton by 1864, the 5th Alabama participated in the battles of the Wilderness and Spottsylvania without severe loss. At The Wilderness, Rodes' Brigade stopped Union Gen. Warren's advance (May 5-6, 1864). At Spotsylvania, it defended the "Mule Shoe" salient (May 8-21, 1864).
