Mr. James Carson "Minkey" Gideon, age 85 of Leland died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Merrell McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Seagate Cemetery in Wilmington.
He was a native of the Seagate Community and the husband of the late Elsie Elliott Gideon. He was also preceded in death by his parents Archie Thomas and Daisy Lefell Roberts Gideon and nine siblings, Leona Brown, Sarah Lee Tardugno, Dorothy Newber, Clifton Gideon, Wilbur Gideon, Junius Gideon, Linwood Gideon, Edward Gideon, and Steve Gideon.
Mr. Gideon was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII. He also retired from Atlantic Coastline after seventeen years and later was employed in industrial construction as an electrician.
He is survived by a daughter, Lefell G. Eason of Ocean Isle Beach and companion, Densil Worthington of Chadbourn; two sons, James Thomas Gideon and wife, Donna of Holden Beach and Robert Douglas Gideon and companion, Melissa Walton of Wilmington; grandchildren, Jamie Gideon, Kevin Eason, Shannon Lane, Chad Eason, Robin Gideon; great-grandchildren, Hunter Gideon, Aiyana Eason, Keiju Eason, Taylor Lane, Thomas Grey Eason, and Macy Eason. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
