Mary Sharp Warner, daughter of Lawrence Henry Warner and Maria Sarah Bowkett, was baptized at St. John of Hackney parish, Poplar, 22 November 1837. Her mother died when she was a teenager, and she lived briefly with her uncle Dr. Thomas E. Bowkett of Poplar, physician and chartist, and her cousin Jane Maria Bowkett, who would become a famous artist. In 1855, Mary Sharp Warner moved to Boston with her father and brother George Thomas, where she met and married her first cousin John Thomas Buckley. They had 11 children, and even though her husband was a succesful plumber, she had her own dry goods business.
