John Nelson Eaton was the son of Hillery H Eaton (1827-1863) & Lucinda J Horton (1823-1900), & although born in Tennessee, he spent all but 2 years of his life in Crittenden Co, Kentucky.

It was in Crittenden Co that he was married about 1879 to Emery "Emma" McFarlan (1852-1898).
