Emma was the only child of Ira McFarlan (1840-1864) & Sarah Elizabeth Jackson (1840-1921). Her father died when she was about 2 years old, & two years later her mother married Thomas Henry Belt (1840-1886).

Emma was married about 1879 to John Nelson Eaton (1856-1903), & they settled across the river in Crittenden Co, Kentucky, where their children were born.
