Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - September 23, 2004. Obituary: Joseph LaMar Salter, 1925 ~ 2004, 79, died on September 20, 2004 in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was born July 2, 1924 in Woods Cross, Utah. His parents were David Salter and LaVera Hess. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He participated in campaigns in the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and the Philippine Islands. He was decorated with a Presidential Unit Citation and a Bronze star. He retired from Amoco after 37 years as an oil refinery operator. Joseph married Ruby Hester Baker in Elko, Nevada on September 29, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Ruby died March 18, 1972. Joseph remarried Carol Ashby. They later divorced.

He is survived by his five children: Alan (Helen), Grand Junction, CO; Kathleen (Philip) Snow, Salt Lake City, UT; Jeffery (Kathy) Salter, Ogden, UT; Steven (Brenda), Bluffdale, UT; and Shelly (Frank) Nielsen, Layton; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and sister, Beth Hughes, Roosevelt, UT. Joseph was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, where friends may call from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
