Aged 95, widowed Engineer. Born at Reed Station. Son of William and Catherine (nee: Woods) Funk. Captain George Washington Funk. Born Read's Station, Perry County, Ohio 1846. Served in the Civil War, Company G-31st Ohio Regiment, wounded in the skirmish at Mission Ridge 1861, marched with Sherman on his March-to-the-Sea. Lifelong resident of Perry County. Last surviving member of Perry County's G.A.R, Post 366. At age 16, he came across Lincoln's campaign train and shook hands with him (see New Lexington News Article). Buried New Lexington Maplewood Cemetery. Occupation - Stationary Engineer for 30 years for the NY Central RR System, New Lexington Oh. Religion - Methodist. Learn about the sad tale of his son Noah Bert & young grandson D.C.'s deaths in a boiler explosion in New Lexington on 11 Sep 1910.
