The White Mountain Independent,
Show Low, Arizona - 12/05/2003

Fred was born in Tuba City on the Navajo Indian Reservation. His father worked for the BIA and when the boarding school opened in Ft. Apache, the family moved there when Fred was three. He attended elementary school in Whiteriver and graduated from high school in McNary. He then married Viola Lewis of Show Low. He went to work for South West Forest Industries in the McNary Planer Mill for several years. Fred then became a partner in the AACO Molding Mill in Show Low.

He later went to work for Nick's Market in Show Low and after Nick's opened a grocery store in Snowflake he moved there to manage that store. In 1978, he bought that store and changed the name to Pioneer Market.

In 1989 he sold the store and it became Ed's Market. Fred then went to work in real estate and became the owner-designated broker of Integrity Realty, and was active in the business right up to the time of his death. He died suddenly at his home in Snowflake on the evening of Monday, Dec. 1, 2003. Fred was an avid sports fan and followed the local school team all over the state to watch them play. He was a true Lobo fan.

Fred was also active in the LDS church and served in many and various capacities over the years. He was a member of the Snowflake First Ward. He was especially grateful when the Snowflake Temple was opened and he and his wife Vi attended the temple often. Fred loved the White Mountains and loved to go fishing at Horseshoe Cienega Lake on the Ft. Apache Reservation. He loved being with his family and always enjoyed activities with his children and grandchildren. Together they loved to plan and decorate the house and yard for each holiday season. They had decorated for Christmas on Thanksgiving Day.

Fred is survived by his wife, Viola Adams of Snowflake; two sons, Allan (Merle) Adams and David L. (Renee) Adams both of Snowflake; one daughter, Debra (Ted) Brewer of Clay Springs; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Hugh A. Adams of Tucson; and two sisters, Laree Dodge of Riverside, California, and Mary Carroll of Phoenix.

He was preceded in death by his son Gary Ray Adams, and a granddaughter Heather Marie Adams.
