Services were conducted by Reverend J Nein of the Selby Congregational church, assisted by Kenneth Biel, of the Sutley community, a Yankton College Theology student, and by Reverend R H Miller of the Bowdle Evangelical church. Special music was by a men's quartet.
Interment was made in the Evangelical cemetery near the Gust Rau farm, in the Sutley community.
Christian Rau was born January 19, 1854, in Bergdorf, South Russia, where he was baptized and confirmed and where he grew to young manhood. In 1879, he was united in marriage with Christina Weller. Eleven children were born to this union of whom eight preceded their father in death.

About a week before his death, his condition became critical and he gradually became weaker until at 11 p.m. September 02, when he passed away. He had reached the age of 92 years, eight months and 17 days.
