Esther was the daughter of William Melvin and Lina Lee Burdick Bucy, and granddughter of George Paul & Eva Hunter Bucy.
She moved with her family to Whittier, California in 1923 and graduated from Whittier High School in 1932, where she was a member of Orchestra, Girls' Orchestra, Dramatics Club and Girls' League during her senior year.
She died from acute nephritis caused by malignant scarlet fever.
Her grave is unmarked.
