SEYMOUR -- Robert M. "Bob" Cousins, age 80, of Seymour passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in Haskell Memorial Hospital, Haskell, Texas.

Services at 1 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Seymour, with the Rev. Glenn Shock, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Larry Crumpton, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be held in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Mr. Cousins was born September 6, 1920 in Haskell, Texas. He graduated from Haskell High School in 1937. He was a World War II veteran. He served as sheriff of Haskell County, Texas, for 6 years after the military. At the time he was elected as sheriff, he was the youngest sheriff in Texas. He then went to work for the Texas Department of Corrections in January of 1955 as Captain of the correctional officers on the Darrington Unit. In July of 1969, he began serving as Warden of the Ellis Unit. He later served as Sr. Warden of the Coffield Unit at Palestine, Texas, until his retirement in 1984. He and Ella Grace Higgins were married November 8, 1977. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was a charter member of the Texas Rangers Foundation Association. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sybyl Etelline King Cousins in 1976 and a son, Jesse Al Cousins in March 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Grace Cousins of Seymour; a daughter, Judy Myers of Alvin, Texas; a son, Robert Chang Cousins of New Waverly, Texas; two stepdaughters, Judy Hardin of Denton and Georgann Higgins of Frisco, Texas; a sister, Alberta Earnest of Richmond, Texas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
