Betty Lou Lackey

Graveside services for Betty Lou Lackey of El Reno will be held in the El Reno Cemetery Pavilion at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, with Rev. Glen Chapman officiating. Services are under direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lackey ascended to heaven on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011. She was born Dec. 26, 1935, in El Reno. Betty was a lifetime El Reno area resident and attended El Reno Public Schools and El Reno Junior College. Betty Lou Thomas married Howard W. Lackey on Nov. 16, 1956, in Okmulgee. She was a homemaker and had attended Bible Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Dexter and Minnie Pearl (Ernst) Thomas; sisters, Mattie Irene Thomas, Isabelle Estep, Lola Summers, Margaret Kennedy, Deanie Sharp and Catherine Choat; and brothers, Albert β€œJunior” Thomas, Claude Walker Thomas and Frank Thomas.

She leaves to cherish her sweet memories, her husband, Howard W. Lackey of the home; two daughters, Claudia Deakins and husband, Horton of Edmond, and Tammy Dodd and husband, Mike of Atlanta, Texas; two brothers, Charles β€œSonny” Thomas and wife, Mary Lou of El Reno and Howard Thomas of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two grandchildren, Kyla Moran and fiancΓ©, Douglas Farler of Benton, Ark.; and Jamie Regan and husband, Joe of Texarkana, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Ben Moran of Benton, Ark., and Joey Regan of Texarkana, Texas; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Betty loved her husband and family and was affectionately known as Granny to her granddaughters and great-grandsons. Filled with compassion and love for others, she would always put others’ wants and needs above her own. She loved nature and animals, often feeding stray animals and the birds. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and love her.
