George Ira Robinson, 87 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a lengthy illness. He was born December 17, 1922, in Grantsville, Maryland. George was a resident of Amherst for forty years.
George served proudly in the United States Army during World War II in the Southern Philippines. he received the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars and the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He attended Fairmont State College in West Virginia where he graduated with honors with a degree in business administration. He was the owner and operator of the former Chicken Galore in Lorain for thirty-three years before retiring in 1993. George enjoyed fishing and loved genealogy and researching his family history.
George leaves to cherish his memory his wife of fifty-eight years Nell Eileen Robinson (nee: Ernest); his sons Glenn W. Robinson and his wife Linda of Lorain, David K. Robnson and his wife Becky of Tallmadge, Ohio; Scott E. Robinson and his wife Joan of Amherst; Shawn A. Robinson of Portland Maine; his daughter Lori and her husband Joe Zahorec of Lorain; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother Edgar Robinson; his sister Esther Pauline Cooper; and by his parents Leo Glenn and Arna Robinson (nee: Thompson).
A private memorial service will be held at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Mark Pemberton, pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association; Cleveland Area Chapter, P.O. Box 74924, Cleveland, OH 44194-4924.
