My maternal Grandmother was Num Num abou Jamra, born in Kfeir, in 1865 and married to Assef Saad who was born in 1859. They were married January
15, 1879, Assef was 19 and Num Num was 14. Num Num, who had red hair, gave birth to five children, one each in 1880, 1882, 1887, 1891 and 1894.
In 1895, Assef left Kfeir to come to the United States where he stayed
four years. Num Num died in 1897 on a rainy winter night after a long
illness. She was 32. She had had a tumor that had lasted twelve years.
Assef returned to Kfeir in 1899 at which time Rahija was withdrawn from
school.
