DEATH OF CHARLES B. GOULD.—Intelligence is received of the death of Charles B. Gould of the Town of Ledyard, near the Village of Aurora, which sad event occurred Sunday morning.
One week ago Saturday Mr. Gould was in Auburn and in driving home that night was overtaken by probably one of the heaviest showers of the season, and thoroughly drenched. From the unfortunate experience he contracted a severe cold, but no alarm was felt. On the following Tuesday he attended the reception at the Cayuga Lake Military Academy, and although very hoarse, seemed to enjoy the occasion with his usual enthusiasm. As late as Thursday last he was in Auburn again, and without the slightest apprehension of anything serious in his case, but the next day was confined to the bed. Saturday, Dr. H. Robinson, Jr., of the city was called, but congestion of the brain had set in and soon after midnight Sunday morning a stroke of apoplexy suddenly extinguished the vital spark and genial Charlie Gould was no more.
The deceased was a son of Benjamin Gould. He leaves a wife and four children, a brother who is engaged in farming, and a sister, Mrs. E. D. Woodruff, of this city. The funeral will take place at the residence at 4 p. M. tomorrow, and will be attended by many Auburnians.
Mr. Gould was a man of some forty two years and very popular in his neighborhood and in the county. In politics be was an enthusiastic Republican and twice represented the town of Ledyard in the Board of Supervisors. He was a communicant in the Presbyterian church of Aurora, a trustee of the Cayuga Lake Military Academy and a member in high standing of the Masonic fraternity.
He was an efficient helper in making the June fair a success, and was greatly affected by the accident to Eugene Root, the driver. He either visited him or made inquiries almost daily at the hospital, and did all he could for him, and it is a melancholy coincidence that each should die within a few hours of the other. - Auburn Daily Advertiser. Union Springs, NY,, June JUNE 1883
He married Cornelia Abby Avery on Oct 19,1870 at Aurora,NY.
