Martha Ellen MacDonald, 79, died July 10, 2012, at her Atkinson NH home, with her children by her side, following a spirited four-year battle with cancer. Martha was born October 5, 1932, in Haverhill MA, the youngest child of Mayor Albert W. Glynn and Rosetta (McDonald) Glynn. She graduated from Haverhill High School in 1951 and worked at the Hale Hospital as a nurse's aide until her marriage on June 20, 1954.

Martha was a warm, generous, and loving wife, mother, homemaker, and friend with an irrepressible spirit and positive outlook. She loved spending time with family, summers on Prince Edward Island, and sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the Boston College Eagles. She had the great fortune to attend a number of World Series games and the 1999 All-Star game at Fenway Park.

Martha served as Atkinson's Supervisor of the Checklist from 1970 until her death, was a past president of the Atkinson Fire Department Auxiliary, sang in the Holy Angels and Interfaith Choirs for several years, was a longtime member of the Atkinson Historical Society and Rotary Anns, and volunteered for countless activities in her town and parish.

Martha and her husband Fred were named Citizens of the Year in Atkinson in 2005.

She was predeceased by her husband Allister F. "Fred" MacDonald on July 24, 2011; brothers William, Richard, and Thomas Glynn; and sisters Natalie McIntosh and Rose Derwin.

Martha leaves her children Ann O'Sullivan and husband Terry of West Newbury MA, Bill and wife Janice of Kittery Point ME, and Jeannie and husband John of Portsmouth NH; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
