John William Anders was born June 13, 1834, in Creagerstown District, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of Abraham and Sophia Sowers Anders. He married on December 11, 1855, in Frederick County, to Minerva Ann Valentine, daughter of William and Lydia Mehring Valentine. They were the parents of 10 children: Laura, Missouri Elizabeth, William Henry, Emma Alice, Sarah Jane, Anna Sophia, Harvey Elmer J., Grayson Howard, Clarence E. and Harry Elmer Anders. John William Anders passed away December 1, 1906, in Frederick County, and was buried in Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland.
