Clarence F. Wunnenburg, 90, died Wednesday, June 18, 1980 in the St. Francis Continuing Care Center, Burlington, IA. He had been a resident of the Care Center for 9 years. The son of Otto and Anna Seilerman Wunnenburg, he was born Dec. 8, 1889 in Des Moines Co. IA. On July 5, 1917 he married Marie Ruppert at Oquawka IL. They made their home in the Morning Sun Community. He was preceded in death by his daughter Clarice Dwinell in 1939 and his wife in 1971. Surviving are two sisters, Mary and Grace Wunnenburg, 2415 Main, Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a veteran of WWI and became a charter member of the Hays Scott Post 112 of the American Legion at Morning Sun. He served many years as the Post Adjutant. He was a 50 year member of Zerah Lodge AF & AM, was a member of the Eastern Star, a 25 year Lions Club member, a member of First United Presbyterian Church, and he served as postmaster.
Funeral Services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Sat. June 21 at Pierce Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Harris officiated. Geneva Samuels was organist. Cecil Bryant, Geo. Griffith, Charles Hamilton, Robert Nichols, Charles Sellers and Duane Swanson were pall bears. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery with Military Honors by the Hays Scott Post of the American Legion.
