Orrie was born to Amos and Mary Shinn in Sweet Home, Illinois near Warren. She was the oldest of 7 children. Orrie was a school teacher in Illinois and in Corning Iowa. She married Dr. Andrew (AJ) Salts December 14, 1876 in Carbon, Iowa. They had 3 children, Mary, Lucy and Paul, all of whom died in infancy.

Mrs. Orrie H. Salts passed from this life Tuesday morning, September 24, 1918 at 4 o'clock in the morning, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Katie Sherwood, in the vicinity of Hamilton, Iowa, after an illness of about five days. The body will arrive in Corning this evening on train No. 9, and funeral services will be held at the home of her brother, A.F. Shinn, Thursday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. A.Y. Cupp. Interment will be made in Walnut Grove cemetery, beside her husband and children.

About a year after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Salts went to Ft. Wayne, Ind., where they conducted the Fort Wayne Hospital for about two years, then came back to Corning, where they made their home until Mr. Salts passed from this life in November 1903, and since then Mrs. Salts has retained her home there. To Mr. and Mrs. Salts three children were born, Mary, Paul, and Lucy, who preceded the father to the life beyond. In early life Mrs. Salts united with the Congregational church. She was also a devoted member of the Eastern Star chapter of which she had been a member since its organization and for a number of years was the Worthy {Congregational church. She was also a devoted member of the Eastern Star chapter of which she had been a member since its organization and for a number of years was the Worthy}* MAtron of the order.
On the second day of the state fair, this year, Mrs. Salts went to Des Moines, where she visited about a week, then went to Knoxville and on to the vicinity of Hamilton. When she left Corning she was about as well as usual, not being very strong for quite some time, and the word of her demise was a great shock to her relatives and friends. Mrs. Salts was a lady of decidedly lovable disposition and her winning ways made her many friends who feel deeply her loss. She is survived by the following four brothers and sister, Ben H. Shinn, of Knoxville, Iowa; Wm. P. Shinn, of Filer, Idaho; F.R. Shinn, Seattle, Wash.; Amos F. Shinn, of Corning, and Mrs. Mamie Shinn-McClure, of Alamosa, Colo.; beside a number of other relatives.
The service at the cemetery will be in charge of Emblem Chapter No. 64 Order of the Eastern Star.

There is no marker showing Orrie's name. There is a large headstone with her maiden and married names near where she is said to be buried. Her obituary states she is buried along with her husband Andrew and their children.
