Actor. He was an old-school stage performer, best remembered for his role as Dr. Pretorius in the film "The Bride of Frankenstein" (1935). He made his film debut in "The Real Thing at Last" (1916), followed by "Nelson" (1918). A veteran of 48 films, his credits include "The Ghoul" (1933), "Henry V" (1944), "Scrooge" (1951), "The Robe" (1953), "Doctor at Large" (1957) and "The Roman Springs of Mrs. Stone" (1961). In 1960, he was granted the order of Commander of the British Empire (CBE). He died of natural causes on the eve of his 83rd birthday.
