Clair F. Hitchcock, 55, of Wyalusing RD 1, Wyalusing Township, died Thursday, April 6, 1989, at Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness. He was born July 16, 1933, in Fairdale (Susquehanna County), son of Clarence and Vera Brotzman Hitchcock. Mr. Hitchock was a Korean War veteran having served with the U.S. Army. Clair was well known throughout the area for his knowledge of the building trade and until his illness, was an avid hunter and was always pleased to help his friends and neighbors. Clair was a member of the Wyalusing Fire Co., and was manager of B&C Lumber Company, Mildred. Surviving is his wife, Mary Shook Hitchcock, at home; two daughters; Sheila Hitchock, at home, and Mrs. Charles (Linda) Clawson Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, Irvin, Sun City, Ariz.; John of Laceyville; four sisters, Mrs. Ellen Davis, Sun City, Ariz.; Mrs. Laverne (Iva) Hitchcock, Rush, Mrs. Wayne (Belva) Very, Rush, Mrs. Louise Sivers, Warren Robins, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jamie Hitchock and Phaidra Caswell, Rosie and Harley Clawson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by two brothers; George and Bryce Hitchcock. Funeral services will be held at the Kerr-McHenry funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing, on Monday at 10:30 with Rev. Philip Wanck, pastor of Wyalusing United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Camptown Cemetery, Wyalusing Twp., Bradford County. Friends may call at the Kerr-McHenry Funeral Home Sunday evening 6:30-9:00. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Wyalusing Fired Company or to the Bradford County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
