Former Westchester Football Star Charles Drake is Dead at 30-

Two time All-City running back Charles Drake has died at the age of 30, Westchester High head coach Seka Edwards announced on his facebook page.

One of the best football players in school history, Drake played four years at the University of Michigan including been a starter in the secondary during his junior and senior years. He had a 134 tackles and an interception during his collegiate career before being drafted by the New York Giants in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL Draft. Drake also spent time on the Detroit Lions practice squad.

At his time in Westchester, Drake helped lead the Comets to an undefeated regular season and Coastal Conference title in 1997 as well as an upset of No. 1 seeded Granada Hills in the 1998 City playoffs.

The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. EST on Thursday at Bible Enrichment Fellowship International Church, 400 E. Kelso St., Inglewood, Calif.

Flowers for the service can be sent to Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary, 3801 W. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood, Calif., 90305. There is a viewing tonight.
