Civil War: Field & Staff, 27th Pennsylvania Infantry

Charles August Reidt was a 33-year-old resident of Philadelphia when he enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant June 1, 1861, and was commissioned into Company C, 27th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was promoted to captain and placed in command of Company C August 1, 1861. Captain Reidt was promoted to Major and transferred to Field & Staff December 13, 1863. Major Reidt was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel March 19, 1864. He was mustered out at Philadelphia June 11, 1864. After the war he headed west where he was killed by bandits on Christmas Eve and buried in the Fort Yuma, California, cemetery. There is no record of his reinterment to San Francisco National Cemetery when Fort Yuma was closed.
