Michelle Marie (Harney) Anderson, 48, a longtime Williston, N.D., resident, formerly of Minot, N.D., passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at her home in Williston.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning, Aug. 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Williston, by Father Russell Kovash. Cremation will follow with eventual interment at St. Vincent De Paul Cemetery in Leeds, N.D.

An Evening Vigil will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at Everson Memorial Chapel, Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Michelle Marie Harney was born March 5, 1964, in Minot, N.D., the daughter of Willam and Dolores (Fox) Harney. Michelle was raised in Minot; attended Nedrose Elementary School, St. Leo's Catholic School in Minot, and Minot High School; and graduated from Surrey High School with the Class of 1982.

On June 20, 1992, Michelle was united in marriage to Kevin Anderson at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Williston. To the couple was born their son, William "Billy" Anderson.

Michelle managed the M&H Store in Williston until being struck by M.S. (Multiple Sclerosis). All these years later Michelle stopped by the convenience store every morning for her coffee and to visit.

She bravely fought M.S. for years. A drug company recently took many a photo of Michelle and her family, wrote a biography of her life with the disease, and was going to use Michelle as a spokesperson for a new drug being brought to market. Michelle always said: "I may have M.S., but M.S. doesn't have me."

Michelle was able to talk to anyone and everyone, and never met a stranger. Once riding the train back to Williston from Minot, she found herself as the "tour guide" for that stretch of the journey to her fellow train riders, after they asked about the happenings in the current oil boom.

She had a love for many types of music, and was also a free spirit. She liked being outdoors in the evening, simply gazing at the night stars, a passion her father inspired in her as a young girl.

Surviving Michelle are her loving family: husband, Kevin Anderson, of Williston; son, William "Billy" Anderson, of Williston; her mother, Dolores "Toots" Harney, of Minot; her brother, Kevin Harney, and wife, Pam, of Pulaski, N.Y., and their daughter, Jennifer (Colby) Pemberton; two sisters, Deborah Harney, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and her son, Paul Brown; and Elaine Ainsworth and her husband, Jon, also of Colorado Springs, and their two daughters, Faye Elizabeth Ainsworth (and her son, Alexander Good) and Lindsey (Jesse) Hatfield; a special nephew, Devon McMartin; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and by many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Harney, and uncle, Tom Harney.

Friends are welcome to call at Everson Funeral Home this afternoon from 1 until 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday for the hour preceding the funeral.

The Everson Funeral Home of Williston is caring for the family.
