Composer, Pianist, Conductor. Considered by many as being one of the most talented and celebrated contributors to music in both motion picture and on stage, he is noted for "The Way We Were" (1973), "The Sting" (1973) and "A Chorus Line" (1976). The son of Austrian-Jewish parents, his father was an accordionist, Marvin was a child prodigy and earned entry into what is now called the Juilliard Pre-College Division at the age of seven. Upon graduation from Juilliard, he scored his first hit "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" which became a hit for Lesley Gore in 1965. He moved onto television and films as he contributed to the soundtrack of "The Swimmer" (1968), "The April Fools" (1969) and "Take the Money and Run" (1969). Hamlisch distinguished himself among his peers as he shared an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for the Barbra Streisand picture "The Way We Were" (1973) and received a Grammy Award and gold record status with "The Entertainer" (1974) from the film "The Sting" (1973). With the Broadway smash hit "A Chorus Line" (1976), he earned a Tony Award and shared a Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Further credits include "Kotch" (1971), "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977), "The Goodbye Girl" (1977), "Same Time, Next Year" (1979) and "Ice Castles" (1980).
