She was born in Evansville, Indiana, the daughter of Homer F. Garrett and Lorraine Smith. Growing up in a military family, she lived in many places, including Japan and Germany. She graduated from Frankfurt American High School in Frankfurt, Germany in 1953.
Gail lived in the Jackson, Mississippi area for 45 years, and was a member of the St. Columb's Episcopal Church in Ridgeland. Her hobbies included crocheting, working jigsaw puzzles and her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Graham Garrett. She was survived by her four sons, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
