Professional Soccer Player. A midfielder with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer, he tragically died young from a congenital heart defect. He was selected to the 2007 United States U-17 World Cup team where he helped the United States to reach the second round with a goal against Belgium. He was a scholarship soccer player at the University of North Carolina, where he captained the team as a senior and led them to the NCAA National Championship in 2011. He was selected by the Columbus Crew in the 2012 Supplemental Draft and won a starting spot, starting the first 5 games of the 2012 season for Columbus. An injury in May took him out of the starting lineup, and he only played once after that before his untimely death. He also played as an amateur for Carolina Dynamo and Chicago Fire U-23 teams in the United Soccer Leagues and was invited to train with Bolton Wanderers and Borussia Dortmund. The Crew Soccer Foundation charity set up a fund in his name in 2012 to support research into congential heart defects.
