LUCULLUS SANFORD, 82, DIES NEAR EMERSON
Funeral services for Lucullus Sanford, 82, who died at his home a few miles west of Emerson, in Round Grove township, early Monday afternoon, March 18, 1940, were held from his late residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. A. A. Hedges, pastor of Palmyra Christian church. Burial was made in the Emerson cemetery. Mr. Sanford had been ill but a short time.
A native of Round Grove, he was born Sept. 1, 1857, a son of the late Thos. E. and Keziah Banks Sanford, who were numbered among the pioneers of the county.
Being a leader in the spiritual life of the community where he had spent all of his life, he was held in highest esteem by all who knew him. For a long number of years he was an elder in the Emerson Christian church and in his passing the community in which he lived, lost one of its most valued citizens. He retired from active farming several years ago.
He was born and lived on the same farm his entire life. He was a brother of the late Dr. Silas Sanford, who for more than 50 years, practiced medicine in Palmyra. A daughter preceded him in death several years ago.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Eva Bowles Sanford, whom he married more than 50 years ago. He was the only surviving member of a large family of seven ehildren.
The body was prepared for burial at Lewis Bros. funeral home.
