BRYANT POND - Ruby H. (Hodsdon) Ring, 83, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999 at her residence. Born in Portland on December 19, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Ella (Taylor) Hodsdon. She graduated from Gould Academy with the class of 1934, and later attended nursing school at the Rumford Hospital. On January 30, 1937, she married Merle Ring, and resided in Bryant Pond for more than 50 years. Mrs. Ring was employed at the Stowell's Silk Spool Company as a sorter, retiring from there after more than 30 years of employment. After retirement, she enjoyed gardening and bird watching. A member of the Bryant Pond Universalist Unitarian Church, she also was a member of the Jefferson Chapter #89 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a Past Worthy Matron and a 50 year and Life Member. In addition she was a member of the Woodstock Historical Society and a very well known local artist, who will be remembered for her wildlife paintings. Besides her husband of 62 years, she is survived by a daughter, Sylvia Knights, and her husband, Clyde, of Bryant Pond; a son, Merle Jr., and his wife, Terri, of Otisfield; a brother, Jesse Hodsdon, of Rumford; a sister, Ruth Haskell, of Bryant Pond; two grandsons, Andrew and Robert Evans; four great grandsons, Chad, Austin, Colin, and Christopher; two brothers, Philo and Dean Hodsdon and a grandson, John Evans, predeceased her. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 2, at the Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock. Private interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery at the family's convenience. Jefferson Chapter 89, OES will conduct memorial services. Those who wish may make donations in the memory of Mrs. Ring to Tri-Town Rescue, PO Box 250, West Paris, ME 04289.
